Most sprinkler quotes you get in Ocean County are one line: "install irrigation system," then a number. Two quotes with that same line can be completely different systems. One uses heavy parts buried deep. The other uses thin pipe a couple of inches down that the first aerator finds.
So here is exactly what goes into ours. Use it to compare, whoever you hire.
The spec, line by line
Every sprinkler system we install includes:
- Toro parts throughout. Backflow, heads, valves, PVC piping, and the water connection. One brand, not a mix of whatever was on the truck.
- One inch poly line run through the whole yard.
- Everything buried five to six inches.
- A Hunter Hydrawise Wi-Fi timer. You run it from your phone. It is the one part that is not Toro.
- Full coverage. Every lawn area is covered, not just the front.
- A 2 year warranty on all parts and labor. The manufacturer warranties on the heads and timer sit on top of that.
That is the list. If a quote you are comparing does not tell you the pipe size, the depth, the brand, or the warranty, ask. Those four answers tell you more than the price does.
Why depth matters at the Shore
Sandy soil moves. Frost works at it every winter, and shallow pipe is what gets cut by aerators, edgers, and the next person who plants a shrub. Five to six inches down keeps the line out of the way of normal yard work.
It also matters on day one. A deeper trench means the lawn over it settles back flat instead of leaving a ridge where the pipe went in.
Why we don't draw you a map
We do not produce a sprinkler map or a zone drawing. We lay the whole system out in person, on your lawn, with you there.
That is on purpose. A layout drawn from a satellite photo can't see your slope, your beds, the shed that blocks the spray, or where your water pressure actually drops off. Setting heads on the ground is how we get coverage to 100%.
What you do get in writing is an itemized proposal: every line of the job, priced, valid for 30 days.
Main line or hose bib?
We can connect to either. We prefer tapping the main line, and our quotes assume the main unless you ask otherwise.
The reason is pressure. The main gives more pressure, so each zone can run more heads, which means fewer zones. A hose bib has less pressure, so each zone carries fewer heads. That usually means an extra zone, and an extra zone adds cost.
Both work. Just know the hose bib usually costs more before you pick it.

If you're putting down new sod too
Do the sprinklers first. It is far cheaper to run pipe before the lawn goes in than to trench through a finished one. New sod also needs steady water for its first weeks, and a system on a timer does that every morning without you.
On bigger lawns it is not optional. Sod over about 1,500 square feet can't be kept alive by hand watering, so we install those lawns with irrigation, or with an existing system we have checked.
